Wine-Knows Travel: Truffle Oil --- Buyer Beware!

Say it isn't so!  I didn't know any better until now, so I'm sure I've fallen for the knockoffs in the past.

Let the buyer beware!

Wine-Knows: Fine Wine and Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: Truffle Oil---Buyer Beware!:

"Mama mia…imagine my surprise when I came across an article in the New York Times talking about knock-off truffle oils.  If it says "Truffle Essence" or "Truffle Aroma" it is SYNTHETIC, made in a laboratory from chemicals that mimic the smell of the glorious tuber.

Buyer Beware!  If you’re shopping for truffle oil be sure to carefully inspect the label to make sure it says “infused with white truffles.”  Don’t even think about labels that have “essence” or “aroma,” as their imposters made with 2,4-dithiapentane in some lab."

Tiger Woods faces psychological must-win with 54-hole lead at Bay Hill

This is a critical juncture for Tiger. I agree. He really needs to win this one . . .

Mark Cannizzaro: Tiger Woods faces psychological must-win with 54-hole lead at Bay Hill - NYPOST.com:

"The greatest closer on the planet this side of Mariano Rivera must close today, put his foot on the throat of Bay Hill’s 18 holes and the remaining contenders in the Arnold Palmer Invitational field and win.

In a year when blown 54-hole leads have trended toward an epidemic (Kyle Stanley at Torrey Pines, Spencer Levin in Phoenix, Charlie Wi at Pebble Beach and Bubba Watson at Doral), Woods today will try to close out his 49th victory in the 53 career events in which he’s entered the final round with the lead.

If he does, it will be Woods’ first PGA Tour victory since the BMW Championship in September 2009, which also happened to be the last time he carried the outright 54-hole lead into a Sunday and closed the deal."

Go Tiger!

Tiger Woods holds share of lead at Arnold Palmer Invitational - ESPN:

"On Friday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Tiger Woods looked like the player who had won the tournament a record six times.

His second-round 7-under 65 gives him a two-day total of 10 under, and with 36 holes to play, he has a share of the lead with Charlie Wi."

Rick Smith on The Big Miss: Hank Haney violated player-coach confidentiality

It's good to see that some folks have some common sense and a moral compass . . .

Rick Smith on The Big Miss: Hank Haney violated player-coach confidentiality - ESPN:

"Rick Smith, a long-time swing instructor on the PGA Tour and former teacher to Phil Mickelson and other notable players, including Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen, spoke out on Wednesday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational about Hank Haney's forthcoming book, "The Big Miss," about the teacher's six years as Tiger Woods' swing coach.

"I would rather be broke and not have a penny to my name before I violate the code of player-teacher confidentiality," Smith said. "In 27 years out here, I've never done that. I'm personally upset with Hank because he's broken and violated our code of ethics. If you have the opportunity and you're privileged to conversations, you will not and should not share anything from them with anyone. I don't care who it is.

"For all the guys who have committed their lives to teaching, this should be very upsetting and I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. What Hank did is against the rules.""

Tiger Woods' Achilles' tendon injury is a mild strain - latimes.com:

"Woods disclosed late Monday that tests on his sore left Achilles' tendon revealed a mild strain, keeping open the chance he could return in time for next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

“Got good news from doc tonight,” the golfer told his Twitter followers. “Only mild strain of left Achilles. Can resume hitting balls late in week and hopeful for next week.”"

Women Who Drink Moderately Have Lower Stroke Risk : Shots - Health Blog : NPR:

"Good news for those of us who see a glass of wine at the end of the day as Mom's reward: Light to moderate drinking may reduce the risk of stroke in women.

Women who drink a glass of wine, beer or a mixed drink daily were less likely to have strokes compared to women who don't drink at all, according to a findings from an ongoing study that has followed the health of more than 80,000 women for 26 years."
