Read the full article: This crazy U.S. Open setup could be perfect for Tiger Woods | For The Win:

"But the thing is, with the course burnt to a crisp already, that potentially neutralizes Tiger’s biggest weakness. You don’t need to hit lots of drivers on dry courses because the ball rolls so far — indeed, Phil Mickelson said this week he only sees three driver holes on the entire course.

It’s essentially going to play like a dried-out British Open course, setups that Woods has played well on in the past: At Muirfield in 2013, Tiger was T-2 heading into the final round, and during the baked-out British Open of 2006, Tiger only hit one driver all week in what was probably the most masterful performance of his career."

"Even Jack Nicklaus, perhaps the greatest golfer in history, makes a strong argument for why new players aren't flocking to golf.

"I'd like to play a game that can take place in three hours," Nicklaus told CNN in January. "I'd quite like to play a game that I can get some reasonable gratification out of very quickly -- and something that is not going to cost me an arm and a leg.""

Read the entire post with photos: Wine-Knows: Fine Wine & Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: Jack Fruit---the Yummiest Fruit I've Had:

"So what is jack fruit?  The flavor is an addictively delicious symphony of pineapple, banana, mango and apple.  While the fruit is used in Vietnamese desserts such as puddings and cakes, I prefer the raw version where I can taste every one of its special notes.  Perfectly ripe jack fruit is like no other fruit you will ever taste.  The texture is also unusual---somewhat fibrous, it is an excellent source of dietary fiber ( as well as high in protein, potassium and vitamin B). Jack fruit is also the largest tree-borne fruit in the world growing up to a ginormous 80 lbs, and as much as a yard in length. "

Travelers’ antibiotics may do more harm than good | Reuters:

"People who travel to exotic locales and take along their own antibiotics are more likely to come back colonized with resistant bacteria, according to a new Finnish study.

Many travelers take along antibiotics to treat so-called “traveler’s diarrhea” - and if they have the medications along, they are likely to use them even for minor ailments, according to lead author Dr. Anu Kantele of Helsinki University Central Hospital.

In most cases this is a bad idea, she said.

“If you have mild or moderate diarrhea, you will not need antibiotics” but should drink lots of fluids and, if needed, take medication that relieves the diarrhea like loperamide (Imodium), if you brought any, she said."

Wine-Knows: Fine Wine & Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: Best of Cabo:

"I’m just returning from January in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.   I rented an apartment and did something I have never done --- I did not cook one lunch or dinner for the month.  I grew up on Mexican food and think of myself as somewhat of an expert, so I made it my personal mission to seek out Cabo’s best.  Here’s what floated to the top of my list (which includes many of our friends who visited opinions as well)."

Street Food, Safe Food? - Food Quality & Safety

"“What we found was that food trucks and carts were treated essentially the same as restaurants in terms of the inspection regime,” says Angela Erickson, the author of the report. “I think the most important conclusion is that as long as food trucks are being treated the same as restaurants in terms of food inspection and food sanitation, then they are just as safe, if not safer than restaurants.”

Some critical things health inspectors often check for when inspecting food trucks and carts include proper handwashing, confirmation that food is from an approved source, making sure foods are maintained at safe temperatures, and checking that no cross-contact has occurred between raw and cooked products, . . ."

Jack Nicklaus is cultivating a 'Golden Bear' empire built on golf - Golf - SI.com

Read the full article: Jack Nicklaus is cultivating a 'Golden Bear' empire built on golf - Golf - SI.com:

"The Nicklaus wines were born through sociable chitchat with Bill Terlato, who has a home at the Bear’s Club, the swank private enclave Nicklaus developed in Jupiter. (Michael Jordan built a cozy 37,000-square-foot cottage there.) “Jack likes to do business with friends,” says Terlato, CEO of his family wine company. “It creates a tremendous loyalty -- you want to do right by Jack. I’m concerned about his reputation as much as my own.”

The wines have sold around 10,000 cases annually since 2010, but Forbes pegs Nicklaus’s net worth at more than $250 million, and the wine deal is not going to change his life from a financial standpoint. So why do it? “Because it’s fun to walk into a restaurant and order your own wine!”
he says."

"It worked! I blanched them for five seconds, and that was enough. I was nervous about losing the vivid flavor that we love in pesto, and yes, a bit of that is sacrificed. That’s why I blanch the leaves for only five seconds. But my friends who tasted this week’s recipes had no doubt that they were eating pesto, and that it was delicious. I kept each batch in the refrigerator, without the garlic and cheese added, for at least a couple of days, and none of them faded. I’m thrilled with this development."

"Tiger Woods removed himself from consideration for the Ryder Cup team Wednesday evening with a clear message that he is not healthy enough to play.

One day after U.S. captain Tom Watson said he trusted Woods to give him the "straight skinny" on the condition of his back injury and his game, Woods said he called the 64-year-old captain to say he would not be available.

The decision spares Watson from having to leave Woods off the team, and it eliminates a distraction over the next three weeks before Watson announces his three captain's picks for the Sept. 26-28 matches against Europe at Gleneagles."

Tighter security ordered for some U.S.-bound flights - CNN.com

Read the full article: Tighter security ordered for some U.S.-bound flights - CNN.com:

""We will work to ensure these necessary steps pose as few disruptions to travelers as possible," Johnson said in a statement. "We are sharing recent and relevant information with our foreign allies and are consulting the aviation industry."

Specific steps or airports were not disclosed. A homeland security official said that TSA would work with airlines and security agencies overseas and that the changes will primarily focus on airports in Europe and the Middle East.

The effort does not involve changes to what travelers can take aboard flights. But passengers may see additional inspections of shoes and electronics, additional use of scanners designed to detect trace amounts of explosives, and another stage of screening at boarding gates, in some cases, the official said.

The measures do not involve U.S. domestic flights, and passengers could see changes as early as next week."
