My New Callaway Eterni-Tees - I like them

I prefer to play golf with unbreakable tees. This way I don't have to keep buying them, break them, and litter the ground with them.

On the other hand, every now and again, I'll forget to pick-up the tee, and my inventory shrinks. I've been unable to re-order my usual brand, so I switched to:  Callaway Eterni-Tees 5-Pack Combos.

I like them. Because they're flat, they can be positioned in the ground to be virtually frictionless, and can be used to repair divots. That means I don't need to carry around a dedicated divot repair tool. Love that!

Reminiscing About 3 Star Michelin in France

View while waiting for dinner at l'Auberge de l'Ill in Illhaeusern, France - 3 star Michelin restaurant
I was in conversation with some folks at work, and found myself reminiscing about a 3 star Michelin experience at L'Auberge de L'Ill in Illhaeusern.

If you're researching 3 star ratings, then check out this table of Michelin 3 Star Restaurants in Europe 2010, 2009 and 2008.

Ben Franklin Wine Quotes

Portrait of Benjamin FranklinImage via WikipediaSome friends of ours gave us a bottle of wine with a Ben Franklin quote on it.

This post is dedicated to Ben Franklin and his quotes about wine.
"Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance."

"Wine is sure proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." (shortened version of the original quote)

Sprouting Garlic Cloves - Tips

This is one full head of garlic beside another...Image via Wikipedia
I was watching a TV show today and learned a couple things about storing garlic cloves, and what a green sprout coming out of the clove means.

First, it's probably not a good idea to store garlic cloves in the refrigerator, because they'll tend to grow and send out a green shoot.  It's better to store them warm and dry to keep them dormant.

Second, if your cloves have sprouted, and you eat them, you can expect them to taste slightly bitter. So when prepping, it's a good idea to remove the green shoots.

Definitely A Bad Round - Swing Sparks Fire

Now this is a really bad round, according to this news release, Golfer's swing snags rock, sparks fire in S. Calif

This year in California, I've been mindful of the bounty of poisonous snakes. Who would think or worry about starting a fire with a swing?!

Air Travel Affects Taste Buds

According to the article:

"When’s the last time you enjoyed your in-flight meal? Your answer is probably “never.” And with the first weekend in August being one of the busiest times of year to fly, flight attendants are likely bracing themselves for a new onslaught of complaints about flavorless airline grub.

But is in-flight food really so bad, or is our perception of it just a little off? As it turns out, there’s a scientific reason why food is less savory at 30,000 feet."

Taste Buds Gone Bad From Pine Nuts

Pine nutsImage via WikipediaI love food and I love wine.  Heaven forbid my taste buds should get out of whack.  If you're a foodie too, you should know about "Pine Mouth." I learned about this syndrome from this ABC news article, 'Pine Mouth': How Pine Nuts Can Ruin Tastebuds for Weeks - Some Pine Nuts Lead to Temporary 'Pine Mouth Syndrome'

Apparently, awareness about this is growing, as evidenced by this Journal of Toxicology article, "Pine mouth" syndrome: cacogeusia following ingestion of pine nuts (genus: pinus). An emerging problem?

You can still read about the same topic here:

This article was a fun read, to see what could be the toughest public courses in the United States, America’s 20 most brutal public courses - Test your skills (and your patience) on the country’s toughest greens.

I noticed that a good number of the courses are diabolical Dye designs.

Travel and Golf Oahu

Southeast Oahu showing Hawai i Kai, Hanauma Ba...Image via WikipediaI'm starting my research for a golfing trip on Oahu, Hawaii, in November, and found this site a good place for starters, Welcome to Visit-Oahu - O'ahu Visitors Bureau The O'ahu Chapter of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.  This site offers a wealth and breadth of information about Oahu.

Since my interest is golf, I also found a golf page on the site, Golf - Visit Oahu.  It's a nice introduction to what I can expect for my golf outings, and lists a couple of notable golf courses for me to research.

Jerk Traveler Worse Than Big Carry-On Rule Breaker

JetBlue Airbus 320 coming in to land at Oaklan...Image via Wikipedia
The JetBlue attendant meltdown sure struck a chord with folks.  This SF Gate article stirred up a litany of comments, Worse on a plane: Oversized carry-on or jerk passenger?

I'd say it depends.  If the oversized offender took up space over my seat, was impolite, and bonked me on the head, then that person is worse.  If the jerk is just all out obnoxious, they should win easily, hands-down.

Wishing you safe, sound, and peaceful travels!

Any Tips for NCL Cruise - Golf HI Program - Pride of America?

A picture of the cruise ship MS Pride of AmericaImage via Wikipedia
I'm thinking hard about taking advantage of the Golf Hawaii Program on the Norwegian Cruise ship, Pride of America.  The program description looks pretty good, NCL - Golf Hawaii Program aboard Pride of America.

I'm excited about the prospect of playing golf on different Hawaiian islands, and the golf amenities and services that NCL offers.

My question to you, do any of you have any real experience or pearls of wisdom to offer before I jump in head first?
