Tiger Woods Opposed To Belly Putters

I agree. There's no place in golf for belly putters.

Tiger Woods reiterates opposition to belly putters in golf - latimes.com:

""I just believe that the art of putting is swinging the club and controlling nerves," Woods said at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, where the World Challenge tournament that benefits Woods' charities is being played this weekend.

Having one end of the putter at a fixed point, Woods said, "is something that's not in the traditions of the game. We swing all other 13 clubs, I think the putter should be the same.""

"With Barack Obama securing a comfortable-ish victory in the US Presidential Election we at Your Golf Travel are glad to have a golfing president in the White House. With Obama’s re-election we were curious about which other US Presidents had a love for the game and were somewhat surprised to learn that a fairly large proportion of recent US Presidents had regularly taken to the fairways. Here are the top 5 golfing presidents…"

I just read this . . . there's no "need to wash your turkey"

I found this a little surprising . . .

A little bit of Food Safety Advice for Thanksgiving | Marler Blog:

"Step away from the sink, and no one will get hurt:

You don’t need to wash your turkey before you roast it, and doing so can be dangerous. A British study found that washing poultry in the sink can spray bacteria up to 3 feet away. And with one in 50 turkeys estimated to be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food-safety inspectors, you don’t want a mist of turkey juice on your relish platter."

7 Rules To Follow When Thinking About Wine And Thanksgiving

7 Rules To Follow When Thinking About Wine And Thanksgiving | Food Republic:

"Every year, it’s the same story: what wine to pair with the Thanksgiving Day meal.

Here’s a newsflash for you: nothing pairs with the Thanksgiving Day meal. Or rather, so many different wines pair with so many different parts of the meal that trying to match one or two to the spread is an exercise in oeno-futility. But you have to drink something, right? "

Adults get nearly as many empty calories from alcohol as sugary drinks

Adults get nearly as many empty calories from alcohol as sugary drinks | CTV News:

"Soda and other sweetened drinks -- the focus of obesity-fighting public health campaigns -- are the source of about 6 per cent of the calories adults consume, on average. Alcoholic beverages account for about 5 per cent, the new study found.

"We've been focusing on sugar-sweetened beverages. This is something new," said Cynthia Ogden, one of the study's authors. She's an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which released its findings Thursday."

Steamed Turkey, the Jacques Pépin Way

This sounds like fun!

Steamed Turkey, the Jacques Pépin Way - NYTimes.com:

"The first thing you have to do, if you want to cook a Thanksgiving turkey the way Jacques Pépin thinks you ought to cook it, is to reach way back into your kitchen cabinet and haul out the sort of caldron you might use to steam lobsters. Next, adjust your expectations.

We understand if your first instinct is to resist. But proceeding with his recipe will yield a bird with an incomparable balance of crispness and moistness; we’re talking about white meat so moist that it stays tender even after a few days encased in Tupperware in the fridge."

TORRONTES --- the Next "In" Wine

Here's what the fine folks of Wine-Knows Travel are sharing . . .

Wine-Knows: Fine Wine & Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler:

"The varietal is the new "in" wine.  The New York Times published last year a review of twenty Torrontes that their panel of wine experts had tasted.  Each time I visit a retail wine shop, I notice new producers of Torrontes.  Last month I attended the annual meeting of the Society of Wine Educators and what do you think the seminar speakers from Argentina were touting?   You guessed it...Torrontes. We’re heading to Argentina in March 2013 for the Southern Hemisphere’s harvest…guess what I’ll be drinking!"

Virgin America: Why an Airline That Travelers Love Is Failing

Say it isn't so!

I love Virgin America for direct flights between San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale.

Virgin America is the the best!

Virgin America: Why an Airline That Travelers Love Is Failing | TIME.com:

"Reporting in August, the Chronicle noted that, despite all of its rewards and glowing reviews, since 2007 Virgin America has posted a net loss of $671 million, and an operating loss of $447 million. More recently, Bloomberg News reported that after large net losses in the second quarter of 2012, the airline would be cutting back flights and asking employees to take voluntary work leaves in early 2013."

Global Entry - Expedited airport security clearance

Wow! I just learned about this.  Hopefully you'll find this useful if you fly a lot and can make use of it.

Global Entry:

"Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports.

At airports, program participants proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration. The kiosk issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit."

In Business, Nondrinking Can Be a Costly Expense

In Business, Nondrinking Can Be a Costly Expense - NYTimes.com:

"Still, research supports the idea that nondrinkers have a harder time climbing the corporate ladder. Multiple studies have shown that moderate drinkers earn more money than those who don’t drink, though heavy drinkers earn less than moderate drinkers."

Tiger goes winless -- and irrelevant

How totally disappointing.

Tiger goes winless -- and irrelevant -- at Ryder Cup | Detroit Free Press | freep.com:

"Finally, there was the ultimate ignominy of the 18th hole Sunday. After Kaymer's putt allowed Europe to retain the Cup, all Tiger had to do was par the 18th hole to ensure that he would win his match, meaning the competition would officially end in a tie, 14-14. He couldn't even do that. Tiger completely missed the hole on his four-foot par putt, allowing Molinari to win the hole and halve the match, and Europe to actually win the Cup, 14 1/2 to 13 1/2.

"After that all went down, my putt was useless," Woods said. "It was inconsequential. So I hit it too quick, and gave him his putt, and it was already over."

That 18th hole served as a fitting metaphor for Woods' long weekend: No victories. Little intensity. And perhaps worst of all, totally irrelevant."

Malbec - Bordeaux's Potential Renaissance - Argentina's Shining Star

Wine-Knows: Fine Wine & Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: Malbec: Bordeaux’s Potential Renaissance & Argentina’s Shining Star:

"Bordeaux’s vineyards were completely replanted after the phylloxera epidemic...mainly with Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc because Malbec didn’t take well to grafting (grafting was necessary to prevent a return of phylloxera).  In the 20th century Malbec lost further ground due to its sensitivities to mildew from Bordeaux’s wet climate, as well as frost brought by the bitter Atlantic storms (the severe 1956 frost wiped out a significant portion of the Malbec vines).  Today, however. Malbec may be making a come-back in Bordeaux."
