Nicklaus Thinks Tiger Woods Can Catch His Record

Jack Nicklaus still thinks Tiger Woods can catch his record but needs to 'get going' - ESPN:

"In what now sounds like a broken record, Nicklaus maintains that records are made to be broken, including his gold standard of 18 professional majors, despite Woods' rough weekend.

Stats & Info: The Man's Got A Point
Tiger Woods is four majors behind Jack Nicklaus' record of 18, and at 37, Woods should be "getting with it," according to Stats & Info. Blog

Woods' effort at the Honda Classic included two lost balls, four shots in the water and 15 shots out of the bunkers. He made four double bogeys, was never better than 3-under par at any point and was under par for only 26 out of the 72 holes he played.

None of this was enough to alarm Nicklaus.

"I still think he'll break my record," Nicklaus said "

Napolitano: Cuts causing long lines at O'Hare, other airports - chicagotribune.com:

"Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on Monday cautioned airline passengers to get to the airport extra early because U.S. spending cuts have already led to long lines at some security checkpoints, and said the coming furloughs will only make the situation worse.

Napolitano said mandatory spending cuts ordered on Friday by President Barack Obama have led to the elimination of overtime for Transportation Security Administration officers and customs agents. She said TSA would begin sending out furlough notices to employees on Monday. Hiring freezes have also prevented any open positions from being filled.

"We are already seeing the effects at some of the ports of entry - at the big airports, for example. Some of them had very long lines this weekend," Napolitano said at a "Politico Playbook" breakfast event.

She pointed to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as examples of those with long lines."

Tiger Woods Most Capable of Winning This Major ...

Which 2013 Major Is Tiger Woods Most Capable of Winning? | Bleacher Report:

"Tiger Woods is capable of winning any of the four majors in 2013. He’s also capable of not winning any of them.

Now, having gotten that out of the way, the one he’s most capable of winning is the Masters, at least according to the masses.

Since missing the cut in 1996 as an amateur, Woods has finished in the top 10 a dozen times. 10 of those were top fives, including four wins. The fact that those victories came at 18, 16, 12 and 12-under par tells you that Tiger Woods knows how to play Augusta National Golf Club better than anybody currently playing the game."

Argentina’s High Altitude Wines - The Healthiest?

Wine-Knows: Fine Wine & Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: Argentina’s High Altitude Wines---the World’s Healthiest?:

"So, what is it about elevation that makes the difference?  Higher altitude vineyard sites are closer to the sun.  Grapes implement a defense mechanism against the sunlight intensity by thickening their skins, resulting in higher polyphenol levels.   Resveratrol, one of these polyphenols, has been shown to have great anti-oxidant properties.  Antioxidants have been shown in numerous medical studies to protect the heart.

High altitude wines, however, may promote more than just cardiac health.  Resveratrol has been found to have implications for destroying human cancer cells.  This important polyphenol may also have “fountain of youth” inference as it has been shown to encourage cell survival during times of stress."

Go Tiger ! - His Torrey Pines win is a great forecast for 2013

Updated 12/12/2022

The original link broke.

Read about the same topic here:

---  the original post follows below  ---

Tiger Woods' Torrey Pines win a great forecast for his 2013 - Sporting News:

"Monday’s virtual walkover—a 4-stroke victory at 14-under—finished off Tiger’s seventh victory (eight overall, counting the 2008 U.S. Open) in the annual Tour stop at Torrey Pines (formerly the Buick Invitational, now the Farmers Insurance Open). A win there, early in the year, has been an omen for success for him every time, going back nearly to the beginning of his run.

In each of the previous six years he’s won this tournament (1999, 2003 and 2005-08), he has finished the year with at least five victories. In five of those seasons, the win total has included at least one major. The exception was ’03, during what was then considered a catastrophic, career-altering “slump”—10 straight majors without a win, with the ’03 shutout aided by late ’02 knee surgery."

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy miss cut at Abu Dhabi

This kind of performance makes it really hard to stay interested.

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy shoot 75s, miss cut at Abu Dhabi - Sports - The Boston Globe:

"Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi Championship in the United Arab Emirates Friday, a woeful start to the season for the world’s top two golfers.

Woods missed it after he was penalized two shots for wrongly taking a free drop, while top-ranked McIlroy was frustrated trying to adjust to his new Nike clubs, even though he used his old Titleist putter in the second round. Both finished with 3-over-par 75s."

Tiger Woods Turns 37

The Golf Blog: Happy 37th Birthday, Tiger Woods! | The Golf Blog:

"The Golf Blog says: Tiger Woods turns 37 tomorrow. That means he needs 5 more majors in the next 10 years–assuming he follows Jack Nicklaus’s pattern of obtaining his last major by age 46–in order to beat Jack’s record of 18 majors. With that pace, Tiger needs to win 1 major every 2 years in order to set the all-time record. The pace seems at least within the realm of possibility, if not plausibility."

Champagne Corks - Vision Damage Danger

Eye doctors warn of champagne: You could poke an eye out with that — State — Bangor Daily News — BDN Maine:

"Champagne bottles contain pressure as high as 90 pounds per square inch — more than the pressure found inside a typical car tire,” the academy announcement states, in part. “This pressure can launch a champagne cork at 50 miles per hour as it leaves the bottle, which is fast enough to shatter glass. Unfortunately, this is also fast enough to permanently damage vision.” "

Crooks Use New Device To Open Hotel Locks

This is alarming. Looks like we have to take care of ourselves by using the security chain, and room safe (when they've available).

Rossen Reports: New device lets crooks crack many hotel locks - TODAY News:

"Some insiders are calling it a security crisis at hotels nationwide: A breach, leaving you more vulnerable.
When you lock your hotel door, you assume you're safe and your stuff is safe. Don't be so sure: Thieves have invented a small, simple device that can unlock hotel doors at some of the most popular chains. Some hotels have known about this security problem for months -- so why hasn't it been fixed?"

Tiger Woods Opposed To Belly Putters

I agree. There's no place in golf for belly putters.

Tiger Woods reiterates opposition to belly putters in golf - latimes.com:

""I just believe that the art of putting is swinging the club and controlling nerves," Woods said at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, where the World Challenge tournament that benefits Woods' charities is being played this weekend.

Having one end of the putter at a fixed point, Woods said, "is something that's not in the traditions of the game. We swing all other 13 clubs, I think the putter should be the same.""

I just read this . . . there's no "need to wash your turkey"

I found this a little surprising . . .

A little bit of Food Safety Advice for Thanksgiving | Marler Blog:

"Step away from the sink, and no one will get hurt:

You don’t need to wash your turkey before you roast it, and doing so can be dangerous. A British study found that washing poultry in the sink can spray bacteria up to 3 feet away. And with one in 50 turkeys estimated to be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s food-safety inspectors, you don’t want a mist of turkey juice on your relish platter."
