Male gut health may benefit from beer - News Medical Life Sciences

According to the article:

"On the whole, the study findings revealed that drinking alcoholic or nonalcoholic beer increases gut bacterial variety without affecting body fat mass, body weight, or serum cardiometabolic indicators, making these beverages a promising way to boost microbiota diversity. Indeed, the present results imply that beer's effects on gut microbiome regulation were autonomous of alcohol and might be facilitated by polyphenols found in beer.

Various studies depict that drinking alcohol reduces bacterial diversity. The use of alcoholic beer, on the other hand, boosted gut bacterial diversity in the current study. As a result, beer polyphenols appear to have outperformed alcohol's negative impact on gut flora."

Is red wine good for your heart? Yes, but only in moderation — here's how much you should drink - Insider

According to the article:

"Research has found that drinking red wine — in moderation — can be good for your heart. However, consuming too much red wine, or any alcohol, is particularly bad for your heart, and can increase your risk for heart disease.  ...

Red wine can lower cholesterol. The polyphenols in red wine have antioxidant properties. This means they prevent or reduce the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), the "bad" type of cholesterol molecules we carry in our bloodstream.   ...

Drinking several glasses of red wine throughout the week can be part of a heart healthy lifestyle. But in general, you shouldn't drink more than one or two glasses each night."

A New Reason Why Red Wine May Be Better For You Than White - Forbes

Read the full article: A New Reason Why Red Wine May Be Better For You Than White - Forbes:

"The bottom line: a daily glass of white wine carries a 13% increased risk of melanoma, one of the deadliest forms of skin cancer. Surprisingly, though, red wine did not carry the same risk. In fact, when the authors separated out beer, red wine, white wine and other forms of alcohol, only white wine carried any risk for melanoma."

Does Cooking Strip Red Wine's Benefits? - NYTimes.com

Ask Well: Does Cooking Strip Red Wine's Benefits? - NYTimes.com:

"The short answer is probably yes: You can drink your wine and cook it too.

Red wine essentially has two properties that make it good for health when consumed in moderation. One is its alcohol content, which is known to increase “good” HDL cholesterol and reduce levels of fibrinogen, a precursor of blood clots. The other is its abundance of polyphenols, natural compounds like resveratrol that, according to some studies, can protect blood vessels and help reduce inflammation."

Great news, Tiger Woods Expected for PGA Championship.

I'm really excited about his return.

I certainly follow him for the drama, Caddie Choice Serves as Window Into Woods’s Thinking. But mostly, I'd like to see him return to his competitive form.

Go Tiger!

This 2009 photograph captured a sneeze in prog...Image via WikipediaThis MSNBC News Article gives wine allergy sufferers some future hope of a cure, Sipping without sneezing? Scientists thwart wine allergies.

In a nutshell, about 8 percent of the world's population can’t sip wine without suffering symptoms of a bad cold. Sulfites cause symptoms in about 1 percent of that group, and a new substance, glycoproteins (sugar-coated proteins), are now being blamed for the other 7 percent.
