Jerk Traveler Worse Than Big Carry-On Rule Breaker

JetBlue Airbus 320 coming in to land at Oaklan...Image via Wikipedia
The JetBlue attendant meltdown sure struck a chord with folks.  This SF Gate article stirred up a litany of comments, Worse on a plane: Oversized carry-on or jerk passenger?

I'd say it depends.  If the oversized offender took up space over my seat, was impolite, and bonked me on the head, then that person is worse.  If the jerk is just all out obnoxious, they should win easily, hands-down.

Wishing you safe, sound, and peaceful travels!

Any Tips for NCL Cruise - Golf HI Program - Pride of America?

A picture of the cruise ship MS Pride of AmericaImage via Wikipedia
I'm thinking hard about taking advantage of the Golf Hawaii Program on the Norwegian Cruise ship, Pride of America.  The program description looks pretty good, NCL - Golf Hawaii Program aboard Pride of America.

I'm excited about the prospect of playing golf on different Hawaiian islands, and the golf amenities and services that NCL offers.

My question to you, do any of you have any real experience or pearls of wisdom to offer before I jump in head first?

Michael Mina in Westin St. Francis SF is Closing

It's a shame, it's a shame, it's a shame, on so many fronts.

First, I was a big fan of the Compass Rose which preceded the current Michael Mina Restaurant. It was a comfortable, warm, and welcoming lobby space.

Second, Michael Mina is a very good restaurant, that ate away at public space in the lobby area of the St. Francis.

Third, and lastly, do we really need another steak restaurant, especially in the Westin?!

Read more about this closing on Paolo Lucchesi's post, Michael Mina to close next month, reopen as Bourbon Steak.

I Love My Unbreakable Tees

A couple of months ago, I decided to buy some unbreakable tees. It all started because I was getting tired of keeping a supply of wood tees in my bag, and somehow, littering the ground with broken tees didn't seem to make much sense.

I found these unbreakable golf tees and have loved them since. The only possible downside is that after hitting a beautiful drive, I've managed to forget picking up a tee or so. So now, I'm down to just 6 left. Much to my dismay, while writing this post, I discovered that Amazon is currently out of stock.  Here's to hoping they get them back in stock.

Hello Golf Foodie World

French wines are usually made to accompany food.Image via Wikipedia
Welcome to my new blog, Golf Foodie.  This is going to be a place for lovers of fine food and wine, travel, and golf.

This past weekend inspired me to launch this blog.  We spent a long weekend with friends made during a 2005 Rhone-Burgundy-Alsace-Champagne France food & wine trip, and a 2008 Bordeaux-Dordogne-Languedoc France food & wine trip hosted by Wine-Knows Travel, Inc.  It was great catching up with friends who share our love of fine cuisine and wonderful wines. (June, I tried out the ribs recipe last night with Petite Syrah, yummm!)

During our stay, we managed to sneak out for a round of golf (and cigars) at Torrey Pines Golf Course. It was a blast for me considering I've only been playing since last December.  OK, I'll admit, I'm totally smitten by the game, and can't get enough of it.

On my return flight home, I snagged a copy of  "The Downhill Lie."  A good read for us hackers aspiring to play decent golf.
