Slate Says Drink Cheap Wine

Why You Should Be Drinking Cheap Wine - Slate Magazine:  'via Blog this'
"Finally, rest assured that cheap wine in the United States is good, to the extent that the term has any objective meaning. . . Reviews and recommendations are great for cars or televisions or overpriced wines, because bad decisions are expensive. If you hate your cheap bottle of wine, just uncork another."
Inside Scoop SF » The false promise of cheap wine:  'via Blog this'
"Oh, please. . . But ultimately the wine industry has hurt itself by portraying cheap wine as fancier than it is. It has created the illusion that $5 wine is fancy enough that you don’t need to spend a cent more. And it paves the way for silly articles like Slate’s, which only make an ongoing case for ignorance."
Inexpensive wine could be a good value.  I think in the end, if you approach it as everyday table wine, you probably won't get disappointed.  My two cents.

---  the original post follows below  ---

Rick Steves' Europe: Disaster in the Cinque Terre:  'via Blog this'
" . . . on Tuesday, October 25. Flash flooding, triggered by unusually heavy rain, ripped through Italy's Liguria region and inflicted serious damage on the Cinque Terre towns of Monterosso and Vernazza. In these towns, flooding was accompanied by landslides, filling streets with rocks, mud and debris up to 12 feet deep."

What Wine to Serve at Thanksgiving?

Pinot noir grapes growing near the village of ...Image via WikipediaWine-Knows: Fine Wine and Gourmet Food Journeys for the Discerning Traveler: What Wine to Serve at Thanksgiving?:   'via Blog this'

I'm a little bit partial right now.  I just returned from visiting family in Portland, OR.

So, I've got two recommendations, go with both:
  1. Choose a lovely Oregon Pinot Noir.  On my trip home, I learned that Riedel has designed and sells a wine glass specific for them.
  2. I just love the dry Alsatian whites.  So I agree. Go with Trimbach and Weinbach.
